Softball Victoria Staff and Board
Sandra Evans OAM was one of the most influential figures our softball community has known. Sandra's achievements in softball were extraordinary. Over more than five decades she contributed as a player, coach, manager, mentor and administrator, helping shape the sport at club, association, state, national and international levels. Her service was recognised through numerous honours, including the Medal of the Order of Australia, but those accolades only tell part of the story. What made Sandra truly special was the impact she had on people, reflected in the countless tributes shared from players, coaches, officials and friends. While their stories are all different, they share a common theme. Sandra made people feel valued. She took the time to listen, to teach, to encourage and to support others, often without seeking recognition for herself. Many have spoken of the conversations they shared with Sandra that changed the course of their lives. Others have reflected on her guidance as a coach, her friendship, her honesty, her sense of humour and her unwavering commitment to helping others succeed. Sandra had a way of leaving a lasting impression. Her legacy cannot be measured by championships won or teams coached. It lives on in the people she influenced, the athletes she developed, the coaches she mentored, the friendships she built and the community she helped create. To Leigh, Stacey, Andrew and the entire Evans and McGuire families, please know that Sandra's softball family are forever grateful that we had the privilege of sharing part of her journey. Sandra leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations. Her contribution to our sport was immense, but her contribution to people was even greater. Thank you, Sandra. For your wisdom, your friendship, your leadership and your love of the game. You will be deeply missed, fondly remembered and never forgotten.

I have loved watching Sandra & your travel journey until the dream was so sadly interrupted by Sandra's illness. My heartfelt thoughts are with you Leigh and your family on such a sad loss after a courageous battle. Sandra was a wonderful woman, dearly loved and a highly respected mentor in the Softball world. I had the pleasure of working with Sandra at World's in Argentina where she talked of her family often. Sandra will be sadly missed on the Softball scene - but she'll live on in our hearts and memories. RIP. Lindy Rattigan

If I had to choose a single word to describe Sandra, it would be "devoted". She was cherished and loved by her children and grandchildren, and absolutely adored by Leigh. Sandra never did anything by halves. She devoted her life to her family, her sport, her friends and, most of all, to her husband Leigh. I feel great sorrow for the life she and Leigh had planned together after retirement, but I also feel truly honoured to have known Sandra and to have seen the passion, warmth and strength she brought to life. She fought so hard, with the same courage and determination she showed throughout her life. Rest easy now, Sandra. You will be deeply missed.

What a wonderful life Sandra lived. However short, she touched so many people professionally and socially. She was cheerful whenever she met you and always had positive things to talk about. She was so proud of her family and all their achievements. She spoke about you all whenever we crossed paths. A supporter to the softball community who will be dearly missed around the diamonds. There are some broken hearts that will need support so gather around and just be there. Hugs to you Leigh, Stacey and Andrew. Love Deb and Fee
