  To our dear friend, Maria If there wasn't already a Saint Maria, there is now. Your life was spent caring for, taking care of and loving unconditionally. Our family always appreciated the beautiful care you gave to Nellie (my nanna) at Altona Meadows Nursing Home before her passing in 2000. We're forever grateful 🙏 Imagine our surprise and delight when Eddie (my dad) went into Point Cook Manor in 2016 and there you were. We were so happy to see you again. Unfortunately we lost contact when Eddie passed away in 2018. Although we often thought of you and said we must visit, it never happened. It was always a regret and weighed heavily. However, when Jan (my aunty) went into PCM in 2020 we finally reconnected. It was covid. We were wearing masks and shields and spotted you from afar. "Maria" I yelled out. You looked around and said "Me?" Walking towards us the recognition kicked in. How excitement! While Jan was in PCM we visited you as often as we visited Jan. We made a vow that when we lost Jan, we'd keep in contact. And we did. We went to lunch. We went shopping. We sat around and laughed, reminiscing of bonded memories, so much about your family and of your life growing up on the farm in Portugal. Your sense of humour and mimicry skills were legendary 😃 It broke our hearts that you were in so much pain and had so much mental torment. For such a beautiful soul to suffer so long was truly cruel. It was just about bang on 3 years to the day from Jan passing that I got a devastating and heartbreaking call from Tony. I had only seen you 2 days before. How could it be? Maria, it's been an absolute privilege and honour to have you as a friend. We will always remember you with love, affection and humour. May you finally rest in peace, pain free. You once told us "I am Maria"! And that you were. One of a kind. Unique. Goodnight and sweet dreams, our dear friend Leanne and Judy 💜 🪻
