This wonderful man was always smiling. He taught me how to play chess when I was 10 and showed me how dancing with abandon is great for making you feel light when everything seems a little dark. Miss you uncle Frank, my everlasting love, Kim XO

What good fortune to have had Frank knock on the front door and introduce himself to our young family, when we moved in as neighbours over twenty years ago. Along with Kathy, he will be forever in my heart. Frank quickly became Uncle Frank to our children and after school visits across the carriageway became a regular occurrence. "Don't worry Uncle Frank can fix it" was frequently heard and was usually the case, on some occasions it was explained that some things would have required powers beyond Uncle Frank. On one memorable occasion Frank used a hack saw with surgical precision to free my son Nathan's leg jammed in the palings of his cot. No mean feat, considering it involved a distressed child and father. First thing Christmas morning with the Payne family was always special to the children. To me Frank was a friend, a mentor and even well into my life, a father figure for someone who had lost their father far too early as a teenager. Chats over a too regular beer, watching the Rugby with him and Roger, frequent laughs, heart to heart chats when things got tough. Of course, Frank was human and life had many challenges, but he met them with a strong resolve, a positive outlook and a "get on with it" attitude. Most of all was his friendliness and love of meeting people. What good fortune to have had that knock on the front door. My thoughts are with you all. Love. Paul Tilbrook

Frank was my 'old mate' and a continuing legacy of my mate, and his son, Troy. He never judged and was a great listener. He taught us young blokes how to be a suffering Parra fan, and was always available for a chat. What a guy. Frank is a tribute to his family who have all turned out to be wonderful people. I thought Frank was one of the kindest and funniest blokes I knew and I'm so glad that I got the opportunity to share some little moments both in Melbourne and Queensland with him and I'll cherish that forever. To the rest of Frank's family, you are one of the lucky ones that were able to experience his crazy humour and kind soul up close and personal. Hang on to that as it is very special. He was always special to me and I am a better person for knowing him. Love you Frankie.
