Doug was born at the Queen Vic Hospital Melbourne on Tuesday 3 November 1959 to Charlie and Pat (our Mum who passed away some 31years ago). He has 3 sisters, Karen, Deb and Rachel. This coming Sunday would have marked Doug’s 60th birthday, however last Saturday around 3.30am at the St Bernadettes Nursing home in North Sunshine he passed away after a 2-year battle with cancer.
Doug grew up in Maidstone, went to Christ a King Primary and then onto St John’s secondary school in Braybrook (when he attended that is...lol) before moving into the workforce he worked as a storeman, forkie and later truck driver, transporting construction materials and hospital goods.
Doug’s teenage years were filled with interests including footy, martial arts and later on Darts. He especially loved the footy and followed Carlton the mighty Blues. He enjoyed bending his elbow with his mates around this area – drinking at his favourite pubs (Ashley, Royal, Powell Footscray and Courthouse), playing Darts and dodging the inevitable questions from Mum and Dad about how much he’d had to drink!
Like all of his family, Doug loved music and listening to iconic bands including Alice Cooper Pink Floyd, Supertramp, Alan Parsons and Fleetwood Mac. He also loved his TV and I guess it’s fair to say, he was a bit of a ‘closet’ Trekkie. (Startreck)
Although Doug had a number of significant others, he never married, I guess he was a bit hard to pin down. He loved his family and friends – Nearly every day Doug posted messages of kindness and love on his FB page and private messenger – wanting to make sure we could all start our day on a good note.
