Obituary For Darryl Francis D'Souza

In loving memory of Darryl Francis D'Souza who sadly passed away on 27th November 2020.

Darryl is the loving father of Janine, Marise and Lisette D'Souza. Beloved son in law of Moises and Nancy Paredes and sibling to Bernice and Doug, Douglas and Angela, Lynette and Garth, Desmond and Daphne and Glenn and Ginette.

Loving Godfather to Joshua, Kerryn and Stephen. Uncle to many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.

He will be missed by many friends living overseas and locally from his Spanish, philosophy, bible studies, classical guitar classes, taekwondo club, pilates, yoga classes and volunteering with St Vincent De Pauls.

He will remain forever in the hearts and souls of those who met him. -- Darryl was born in Coimbatore, India on the 13th October 1957 to Elizabeth (Bessie) Mary D'Souza and Mathew Francis D'Souza. As a traditional welcoming act in Southern India, servants broke open coconuts at the news of Darryl's birth. This tradition encompasses breaking 'negative qualities' and thus filling the soul with love and kindness.

Whilst the family is Goan, Darryl was not born in Goa as the family travelled around the country following Mathew D'Souza's posts with the Indian Airforce. Darryl grew up in Bombay, Agra, New-Delhi, Allahabad, Delhi and Rajasthan- Mount Abu and in his teenage years the family moved to Zambia where he lived in Livingston and Lusaka for a number of years. Darryl loved the wildlife in Zambia, spending many days visiting game parks, barbecues on the banks of the Zambezi river, watching for elephants and hippos. He loved trips to Victoria falls, which was down the road from the family home. In Zambia, Darryl met Father Jude, the Parish Priest, who made a large impact in Darryl's life. It was through Father Jude that Darryl took an interest in martial arts and specifically, judo.

In 1977 Darryl and his brother Desmond, followed suit of their older sisters by immigrating to Australia. Darryl settled in Melbourne, Essendon. This was the final destination for the D'Souza family, after all the roaming around, from virtually the beginning of their lives.

It was here that he met his wife and mother of his children Nancy Lisette D'Souza. They were married in 1984 and welcomed their first child in 1990- Janine Mary D'Souza. Marise Frances D'Souza promptly followed in 1993 and Lisette Marie D'Souza in 1999. Whilst Darryl and Nancy divorced after twenty years together, they remained good friends and continued to co-parent their daughters. Years later, Darryl married Yashodhara Coehlo, who also continued a longstanding friendship after their separation. Through the years following, Darryl's mother and father both passed away peacefully. Nancy D'Souza, the mother of Darryl's children also unexpectedly passed away in 2017. Darryl remained a strong and constant presence in the face of adversity and grief.

Darryl suffered a sudden complex aneurysm on the 21st of November 2020 and passed away peacefully on the 27th November 2020 with his three daughter's by his side, holding him until he drew his last breath. Darryl has been welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven and is in good company with Nancy and his parents, Bessie and Mathew.
