I first crossed paths with Garth 25 years ago, during his Woodside days. At that time, I was a fresh-faced shipbroker, eager to make my mark in the marine industry, while Garth was already a towering legend. From day one, he took me under his wing, and we forged a remarkable friendship through our shared work. Garth was the ultimate gentleman, always ready with a smile. However, he possessed a temperament that could scare the living daylights out of many a shipowner! Despite that, his gentle nature and unwavering respect earned him admiration from virtually everyone he encountered. I had the pleasure of traveling the world with Garth, from the northern reaches of Canada, through the diverse landscapes of Africa, and all the way to the beautiful city of Perth. Along the way, we found ourselves exploring countless antique bookstores, some planned and some impromptu, all in search of that elusive first edition of Nelson. Garth, my buddy, you will be sorely missed, but the memories we've shared will stay with me forever. Godspeed, my friend.

I first met Garth working offshore in Australia in the late 1990's. He would come out to the rigs and manage all things marine for us when we moved locations. His attention to detail, his humour and his wonderful style of doing things were a treat. Nobody got anything past Garth. We went on to work together after that in various international locations, and the arrival of Garth and his big beaming smile in Africa and Asia was always a good sight to see. I loved his tales and stories and his vast knowledge of maritime history. Our condolences to family and friends. We will miss you Captain. Dave and Laura Moon.

Garth was my best mate for over 25 years. Together we held many team building events that destroyed many teams and killed off whole tribes of single malt whiskies. Garth always said "you have to break them to build them" and he was happy to play his full part in the breaking! Garth told me recently that Sjaan was the best thing that ever happened to him. I certainly saw the difference she made in his life. A great pity that they got together so late but really happy that they were able to have some quality time together. Garth was a true friend and a real gentleman. He will be sorely missed. Next time I see you Garth we will have a dram of the finest "angels share". Save some for me! Graham
