We met Alan on our trip to Australia. He and Joan kindly put us up in their home.  Alan was a lovely man to be around with a great sense of humour.  I enjoyed our walks with Ellie when you took the chance to have a sneaky cigarette.  Thinking Joan would never know (I'm sure she did) I will never forget you pointing out my first koala, a big thing for a lad from central London.  You also introduced me to Victoria Bitter; they were some fun nights. You will be sadly missed, but we are all the better for knowing you. Rob and Yvonne.

First met Alan back in 1982 when he was president of the Essendon Fish Protection Society and Angling Club. He would be remembered by many who spent many an hour fishing with him and his years of knowledge being shares at the weekly Monday night meetings over the years. Rest in Peace my friend.

My dear Uncle 'Beg your pardon' I'll miss your phone calls and our chats and the antics you'd get up to, most of all I'll miss hearing your laugh. Fly high, I hope there's plenty of fishing in heaven. Love always, Jess, Daniel, Siobhan and Ava xo

Knowing Alan for some 30 years has been a pleasure. You were a kind, gentle and very intellectual person, a wonderful Husband, Father and friend. Thank you for the rabbit skinning lesson which I could have lived without. Goodbye old Mate. You will be deeply missed. Our heart goes out to the Buchanen family at this a time of profound loss. From our hearts to yours. Phil & Peter.
