Obituary For Alan Geoffrey Spoor

In loving memory of Alan Geoffrey Spoor who sadly passed away on 7th May 2019. Alan was born in London, England in 1946, the second son of John Edward Spoors and Elizabeth May Spoors and younger brother to Frank Spoor (since deceased).

As a teenager, Alan listened to the pirate radio stations anchored in international waters fostering a secret dream to become a radio DJ. Alan left school at 15 to work in retail at Sainsbury's in the butchery department beginning a 50 year work career.

Alan began a lifelong passion for English Soccer following his beloved Fulham FC until the end. His proudest moment was their progression to the Premier League in 2018.

Alan took an interest in stamp collecting, focussing on the stamps of England. He loved music and you could often find him tapping his foot to the tunes of The Rolling Stones.... and he always wanted to be like Mick.

Alan married in England in 1972, relocating to Australia and shortly after settling down in Adelaide where he had two children, a daughter Lisa and 2 years later, a son Adam. Alan and his wife Jean divorced over 30 years later.

Alan worked as a storeman/packer for many years before fulfilling his dream to own his own business, firstly, a 7 day deli and then a retail bakery.

Alan was the type of father who encouraged his children to work hard, be decisive, always be grateful and express gratitude for those who helped you along the way. Alan encouraged his children to choose their own career path, supporting them to achieve what they wanted and always encouraging them to find a direction and follow it.

Despite life's challenges, dad always tried his best, even when he lost everything, he patiently rebuilt his life to put a roof over the heads of his family.

Alan suffered a stroke in 2016 leaving him unable to move independently. With the support of his daughter, Alan relocated to Melbourne where he won the hearts of staff at Estia Health Altona Meadows. Alan's dry but cheeky sense of humour won over staff, Alan saving a special place in his heart for his favourite nurses.

Alan was diagnosed with an inoperable Cancer in 2018, undergoing 4 rounds of radiation therapy. In the last weeks of Alan's life he was surrounded by loving nursing staff and his daughter, who in the final moments never left his side.

His final thoughts were of love and gratitude for those who loved and cared for him and he slipped away peacefully at 5:10pm.
